The New Features Coming To The Facebook App and Messenger

facebook app, Facebook Messenger     1 comment

At its F8 developer conference, Facebook introduced a variety of new features and updates users will soon see over the next few months. From a new dating app to privacy controls, the social media platform is bringing people more ways to interact with others and add to their profiles.

Here are all the new features to expect on the Facebook and Messenger apps in the near future.

NEW FEATURES ON FACEBOOK:

1) CLEAR HISTORY

In an effort to help protect user privacy, Facebook introduced a new feature called Clear History. While it’s going to take a few months to build, the feature will allow users to view and delete the information from apps and websites that’s collected for Facebook’s ads and analytics tools. That way, app developers won’t be able to link information they collect directly back to your profile.

The feature is similar to the way you can clear cookies and browser history, so it might affect your overall Facebook experience. The company did warn users that by using the feature (which you can toggle on and off), they might be required to sign back in each time they want to log into their account. Facebook will also have to relearn their preferences.
2) CRISIS RESPONSE HUB

Facebook introduced its Crisis Response Hub in 2017 to help people stay safe and informed when a crisis arises. A new feature rolling out later this year, it will allow people affected by the crisis to share real-time updates of their experience, including photos or videos of damage, road closure information, and more.
3) DATING APP

In an effort to jump into the dating game, Facebook is building a feature for dating and relationships within the app. Similar to Tinder and Bumble, you’ll be able to create a dating profile that’s separate from your Facebook profile. Your potential matches will then be recommended based on things you have in common, dating preferences, and mutual friends.

Since the dating service functionality won’t go into testing until later this year, CEO Mark Zuckerberg didn’t share too many details. He did mention that users will also have the ability to discover others with similar interests through their Groups and Events. But what you do within the dating feature won’t be shared with friends, meaning you’ll have some privacy while using the feature.
4) SHARING 3D PHOTOS

Following the introduction of 3D posts that allows users to share 3D content on Facebook, users will be able to share 3D photos as well starting this summer. While the company didn’t release too many details about the new feature, it did mention that users will be able to post the 3D photos to their news feeds.
5) GROUPS TAB

To help make it easier to access Groups you’re a part of on Facebook, the app will now have its own dedicated tab. Placed at the bottom of the app next to already existing tabs like Notifications and News Feed, the Groups tab will allow you to find more groups to connect with.
6) WATCH PARTY

Facebook’s Watch Party lets users view videos together with their friends. If you’re part of a group on Facebook, you’ll also have a Live Commentating option through Watch Party — allowing moderators to narrate what’s being watched by the entire group.
7) DOWNVOTES AND UPVOTES

While Facebook is known for starting the “Like” trend that is now used across a multitude of social media platforms, it has yet to release the opposite. The company announced it will be adding an upvote/downvote feature, but it will only be available for some comments. Users will only be able to use it on certain posts to help promote helpful or insightful comments, which is likely Facebook’s way of keeping people from abusing the feature.
8) SHARING TO YOUR FACEBOOK STORIES

Following the introduction of Snapchat Stories, Facebook introduced its own Stories feature that allowed users to upload a collection photos and videos using the in-app camera. At the developer conference, the company announced that you’ll now be able to add more to your stories by sharing content from other platforms.
By tapping the share button through an app, you’ll be able to share the content directly into the camera and then edit it however you’d like. The feature will be available to use on Instagram Stories as well, and you aren’t required to link either of your accounts to other apps in order to use the feature.

NEW FEATURES ON MESSENGER:

1) M TRANSLATIONS
Within Marketplace on Messenger, users will soon be able to use a new feature called M Translations, which will translate conversations in real time. The feature will be rolled out throughout the year to users in the United States, and will only translate English and Spanish conversations at launch.
2) MORE MESSENGER CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS

While Facebook didn’t release information on when we can expect to see the update, it did announce a redesign is coming to Messenger that will help the app look less cluttered. Users will also be able to customize their interactions with the ability to change the color of the message bubbles, and will also have the option to switch to night mode.

3) AR ON FACEBOOK MESSENGER

Launching in closed beta, brands will now be able to integrate augmented reality camera effects for its customers to experience in Messenger. You’ll be able to virtually customize or try on merchandise whether that’s makeup from Sephora or sneakers made by Nike. It will also give users the opportunity to learn more about the products than they would by simply viewing them online

    Delete or Deactivate Facebook Account

Deactivate Facebook Account, Delete Facebook     No comments

Delete or Deactivate Facebook Account: If you're ready for a social media break, here's how to delete Facebook.

    Delete or Deactivate Facebook Account

    Deactivating

Facebook gives you two options: two options: deactivate or delete
The first couldn't be easier. On the desktop, click the drop-down menu at the top-right of your screen and select Settings. Click Security on the left, and you'll see a "Deactivate My Account" link at the bottom. (Here's the direct link to use while logged in.)
If you're on your mobile device, such as using Facebook for iOS, similarly go to Settings > Account Settings >Security and you'll see a link that says "Account – Deactivate."
Facebook doesn't take this lightly—it'll do whatever it can to keep you around, including emotional blackmail about how much your friends will miss you.
As such, "Deactivation" is not the same as leaving Facebook. Yes, your timeline will disappear, you won't have access to the site or your account via mobile apps, friends can't post or contact you, and you'll lose access to all those third-party services that use (or require) Facebook for login. But Facebook does not delete the account. Why? So you can reactivate it later.

Just in case that expected re-activation isn't in your future, you should download a copy of all your data on Facebook—posts, photos, videos, chats, etc.—from the settings menu (under "General").

    Account Deletion

To fully delete your Facebook account forever and ever, go to the Delete My Account page at facebook.com/help/delete_account. Just be aware that, per the Facebook data use policy, "after you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere to the extent it has been shared with others, it was otherwise distributed pursuant to your privacy settings, or it was copied or stored by other users."
Translation: if you wrote a comment on a friend's status update or photo, it will remain even after you delete your own profile. Some of your posts and pictures may hang around for as long as 90 days after deletion, as well, though just on Facebook servers, not live on the site.

    Deletion on Behalf of Others

If you want to notify Facebook about a user you know is under 13, you can report the account, you narc. If Facebook can "reasonably verify" the account is used by someone underage—Facebook bans kids under 13 to comply with federal law—it will delete the account instantly, without informing anyone.

There's a separate form to request removal of accounts for people who are medically incapacitated and thus unable to use Facebook. For this to work, the requester must prove they are the guardian of the person in question (such as by power of attorney) as well as offer an official note from a doctor or medical facility that spells out the incapacitation. Redact any info necessary to keep some privacy, such as medical account numbers, addresses, etc.

If a user has passed away, a legacy contact—a Facebook friend or relative who was designated by the account owner before they died—can get access to that person's timeline, once approved by Facebook. The legacy contact may need to provide a link to an obituary or other documentation such as a death certificate. Facebook will "memorialize" the page so the deceased timeline lives on (under control of the legacy contact, who can't post as you), or if preferred, remove it.

    Facebook Legacy Contact

Designate a specific legacy contact person to handle your account after your passing. You can find that under Settings > Security > Legacy Contact. Once you set one up, you'll get a notification every year from Facebook to double check that the contact should stay the same. You can also take the extra step of making sure that after you die, if the legacy contact does report you to Facebook as deceased, your account gets deleted (even if the legacy contact wants the timeline to be memorialized).

It further goes ahead to claim that those followers would be secretly stalking you, your statuses and updates.
The rumor says that Facebook will give you the list if you go to your ''Settings'' - to ''blocking and privacy'', and type in ''following me''

Realistically, when you type into the search bar, Facebook WILL give you a list of friends, places, etc. So, what you are seeing is actually just a list of people who share some letters with the words ''following'' and ''me''.

Fortunately, the rumor is unfounded and untrue.

Follow me- the new Facebook hoax

       Facebook, Facebook hoax     No comments

A current Facebook hoax making the rounds causing fears of online stalking is ''Following me''.
Follow me- the new Facebook hoax

But the story has been dispelled by experts who say the social media site is still as safe as ever.
The myth that has been circulating claims that each user has a hidden list of “followers”. That is to say, the followers are people who can see what you post without being accepted as a “friend”.

The rumor is that if a Facebook user goes to their settings section and types in “following me”, the site will reveal a list of ''covert followers''.
Fortunately this just a hoax and it is not the first time it has reared its ugly head and scared social media users.

A Facebook user claimed to have uncovered the trick and wrote: “I just learned something new. If you go to account settings, blocking, block users, and type in “following me”, without the quotes, you might be surprised just who is following you. I had a lot people on it that I had no clue who they were. They are blocked now. I had to block them one at a time. Creepy... Most were middle eastern persons and all my posts are to friends, not public.”
But typing ''following me'' into a search bar will simply display a list of other users with “following” or “me” in their names or contact information.

According to Facebook’s Help Center, you go to the right corner and select settings, then click public posts, then select friends or public next to who can follow me.

It was difficult at first because I didn't where to see the remove page option. Hence, I'm gonna show you how I deleted mine and you too can delete yours.

How to find out if you have been blocked on Facebook

How do I know if someone blocked me on Facebook, How to find out if someone blocked you on Facebook, How to tell if someone has blocked you on Facebook     No comments

You've been keeping in touch with someone on Facebook when all of a sudden you discover that you can't view his or her profile, neither can you send him or her messages.

In this article, we are going to show you how to find out if you have been blocked on Facebook.
The first step to finding out if someone has blocked you is trying to find his or her name on Facebook. If you can't find the profile even after trying to search by name, then there is something wrong. Next thing to do is try to search the name through mutual friends, i.e, visiting the friends list of your mutual friends on Facebook. If you still can't find the person, this could be due to three probable reasons: Your friend has blocked you, Your friend has deleted his profile, Your friend's account has been disabled either by him or Facebook following a violation of its standards. If it is the first reason, then we proceed with the following steps:

Before you proceed, check this out: Can I unblock a blocked Facebook User?

      STEP ONE:

If you have a conversation with the person then you can check through your messages. If you two sent messages (also in chat) look for them from the messages page and expand the conversation. The photo of the person will show the default Facebook image (the white outline on blue background), but what should draw your attention is the name. If the name of the person is black, in bold and you can not click on it to visit the profile, then most certainly, the person has blocked you on Facebook.

      STEP TWO:

Another way to find out if you've been blocked on Facebook is to open a conversation with your friend and try to report it as spam. Re-open the message page and the conversation with the Facebook user. From the menu at the top right of the pop-up screen, tap on “Actions”, choose “Report spam or abuse”.  From the new window that opens, choose “Report one or more participants in the conversation for harassment or threats, or to have a compromised account.” then click ''OK''. If the next window reads “Operation prohibited” to the right of the name of the friend, it means you've been blocked.

      STEP THREE:

This last method is by far the simplest and easiest method. Ask a mutual friend to view the profile of the friend who you think has blocked you, if that mutual friend can access the said profile, then it most certain that you have blocked.

      CONCLUSION

If after employing this tricks, you discovered that a friend has blocked or removed you from his or her friend's list, don't worry or feel irritated. If that person has decided to block you, he or she will have reasons for doing so and you should not allow it to interfere with or affect your friendship in real life. Facebook is just a social network, a virtual place to stay in touch, do not let Facebook ruin a friendship or a relationship.
