The truth behind Facebook's following me

 Facebook, Facebook hoax     No comments

A newest Facebook hoax making rounds and causing fears of online stalking is ''following me''.

The truth behind Facebook's following me
But the story has been dispelled by experts who say the social media site is still as safe as ever.
The myth that has been circulating claims that each user has a hidden list of “followers”. That is to say, the followers are people who can see what you post without being accepted as a “friend”.

The rumor is that if a Facebook user goes to their settings section and types in “following me”, the site will reveal a list of ''covert followers''.
Fortunately this myth is just that- a myth and it is not the first time the hoax has reared its ugly head and scared social media users.

A user who claimed to have uncovered the trick wrote: “I just learned something new. If you go to account settings, blocking, block users, and type in “following me”, without the quotes, you might be surprised just who is following you. I had a lot people on it that I had no clue who they were. They are blocked now. I had to block them one at a time. Creepy... Most were middle eastern persons and all my posts are to friends, not public.”
But typing ''following me'' into a search bar will simply display a list of other users with “following” or “me” in their names or contact information.

According to Facebook’s Help Center, you go to the right corner and select settings, then click public posts, then select friends or public next to who can follow me.

Spammers also hack into Facebook accounts to gain access to your following. From your profile, a hacker can additionally gather a lot of personal information about you that can be used to steal your identity.
How To Check And Know If Your Facebook Account Has Been HackedIf you are afraid that your account has been hacked, there is a simple and easy way to check.

1. Click at the top-right corner 2. In the menu, select Settings. A new menu will pop up.

3. Choose Security and login, a screen will pop up to show you where you logged in and the devices you used to log in.

4. If there is a login you don't recognize, chances are you may have been hacked.

5. If you see anything that isn't you, click End Activity on the right side of the log to end the session. The hacker will be logged out, temporarily or you visit this page to secure your account. You'll be asked to change your password and review recent login activity.

Other Indications That Your Facebook Account Has Been HackedThere are other ways to know if your account has been hacked and they are clearly outlined below:
  • Your email or password has changed
  • Your name or birthday has changed
  • Friend requests has been sent to people you don't know
  • Messages that you didn't write has been sent from your account
  • Posts that you didn't create are appearing on your timeline

1. Once you click on End Activity, change your password right away.

2. Next, get Facebook's help. Facebook has a system to help you if you've been hacked. Go to the Facebook help page, click on ''I think my account was hacked or someone is using it without my permission'', and then click on ''secure it''. Facebook will take you to a page where you log in and then go about the steps to securing your account.

How You Can Further Keep Your Account Safe And SecureFacebook is filled with so many security features, all you need to do is just to activate them.
1. Go to the downward arrow in the upper right-hand corner of your Facebook page, click it and select Settings.

2. Click on Security and login on the left-hand side of the page (under General)

3. Scroll down, under Setting up extra security, tap on Get alerts about unrecognized logins and set it to be switched on.

4. Tap on Use two factor authentication to log in using a code from your phone as well as password

5. Tap on Choose 3 to 5 friends to contact if you are logged out and set it to be switched on.These friends will help you unlock your account by sending you a code and URL from Facebook to log back in to your account if is ever hacked.

6. Go to App Passwords and have the tool generate unique passwords for your apps instead of using your Facebook password.

With these steps, your Facebook account will be much more difficult for a hacker to get into and much easier for you to recover if it is ever compromised. Remember to set your password as a random set of numbers, letters and symbols to add a final layer of security.

How To Delete A Post From My Facebook Timeline?

Access Facebook, Account, App, Delete Facebook, facebook account, facebook app, Facebook followers, people, post     No comments

This article explains how to delete a Facebook post from your own wall. Did you mistakenly post something on your Facebook timeline and want to delete it? Don't worry, this article will save you the stress.

How to Delete a Facebook PostThis is for a post someone else wrote on someone else’s timeline. It will not remove the post, it will hide it from you.

When you look at a post, you will not see the carrot on the right side. Hover your mouse in that area to see the carrot. Click on it.

You will see several options. Click “I don’t want to see this.” You will no longer see it. Facebook changes exactly what this says from time to time, but the concept is the same. As in my next set of instructions.

Another Way to Remove a PostI noticed that I have a slightly different set of options when I go to delete a Facebook post by someone else.

On my Facebook account, the options include “Hide” and “Report/Mark as Spam.” I don’t have the survey option and I don’t have “I don’t want to see this.” What’s the deal? I guess Curtis has a different set of options than I do on his page, because one is newer than the other.

Deleting Your Own Facebook Post The two posts above were written by others. The first account belongs to Curtis Ellis, the second to Jennifer Ellis. If you have written a post of your own that you want to delete, here is how it is currently done.

As you can see, there are completely different options when the post is your own. You can delete your own post, unfollow it, or embed it somewhere else.

Deleting or Removing a CommentIf you have written a comment on a post (yours or someone else’s) you will instead see a pencil when you hover.

ConclusionIt seems that Facebook has decided to change the word delete to hide, or something else that does not make it clear whether you are actually deleting a post from your timeline. Given that you cannot delete someone else’s post anyway, this makes some sense.
